Studying for the Renaissance Lit exam

Posted by: Rebecca in ,

So, while studying for my RenLit exam, I discovered (again) how weird I am.  Here are some interesting things that appeared in my notes:

From the Wyatt sonnets:
"i.e. your breath reeks, you nasty old woman"

From Astrophil and Stella
"Dedicated the majority of the sonnet to a point by point 'everything you can do I can do better' with the dog"

From Shakespeare's Sonnets
"Pity the world and have kids, or else you'll die and be eaten by the grave"
"Minions aren't really that good"

From Spencer's Faerie Queene:
"RCK's bragging - so confident that his inner virtue will illuminate his path.
        Yeah... no."
"no sex for you!!"
"RCK decides to escape
Goes out through an outhouse so no one will see him
Slithers through sh*t and decomposing bodies.....eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew."
"And Britomart's all 'it's just a flesh wound'"

From Marlowe's Hero and Leander:
"Seems he's experienced a poetic/descriptive meltdown, also a sexual meltdown
'slack muse' - yeah, right.  Muse."
"I'm pretty much half dead, just let me into your bed so I can rest a bit"
"Soooooooooooooooo much sexual imagery, I mean, really"
"Leander finally makes it to Hero, 'nekkid' (so says Dr. Macfie)
Hero is so excited that she runs to the door, also 'nekkid'
Seeing Leander 'nekkid' at the door, she screams in fear - naturally"
"Hero seeks refuge in her bed
Not a good idea, to hide in one's bed from a potential rapist... bad plan, Hero, bad plan"

The things I think are relevant to class and the literature we're studying.... I don't even know.

This is just awesome.  Like, so awesome.  I wish we'd done this in high school when we did Handel's Messiah.
