Four Papers and a Funeral

Posted by: Rebecca in , , ,

Well, here we are, almost to the middle of February and it's only snowed a little bit in Sewanee. My mother tells me that it continues to snow in Jackson, so much so that she and my dad can't go to work.

I'm jealous. They'd never cancel classes for snow in Sewanee... they'd just dig tunnels to the academic buildings so we could go. Ugh.

I've been ridiculously busy for the past couple of weeks. First it was Rush - Formal House, Return House, and Shake Day. Then there was a lot of reading to be done for various classes. Then it was Prom, and Crush Party. And now it's papers. I have a paper due tomorrow (Tuesday), two Thursday (for the same class!!), and one next Tuesday, a week from today. I've finished the one for tomorrow, thankfully - all that's left is proofreading - but I still haven't gotten anything of note done on the rest.

As for the funeral, that's where I stopped in Mothwing late last week before turning it in to Kevin - poor Gideon had to watch his own funeral (can you imagine how awkward that would be? Ick.) I haven't had a chance to go back to it yet, due to all these stupid papers, but I plan on working on it tonight. Kevin has introduced me to a writing program called Ommwriter that I am absolutely in love with - it essentially takes over your whole screen with this nice white picture of some trees in snow and you type in the middle of it and it plays various ambient sounds like ocean waves (my favorite) and it's just awesome. Yep. So go look!

They have a nifty video and everything.

In other news, I have started going to the gym. I know, scary, right? But it's becoming a regular thing since Elizabeth, Jessica, and Kayce all go regularly, and Eliza goes sometimes too. And today I met a man named David Coe while I was on the stationary bike. I accidentally threw my iPod at him and then later he introduced himself because of a book I was reading (The Shadow Rising by Robert Jordan, fourth in his Wheel of Time series). Apparently Mr. Coe also writes fantasy for Tor, Robert Jordan's publisher. I am to read one of his books whenever I finish with Robert Jordan. And I think I will. It was just weird enough of an encounter to make sure I do, eventually, lol.

Adventures with Birds, and Other Stories.

Posted by: Rebecca in ,

So, today, Elizabeth and I walked to the SPO to check our mail before lunch, and on the way back, we saw two girls standing on the sidewalk next to something small.  When we got up close to them, we saw it was this little bird, sitting on the sidewalk munching on a soggy bagel.  It wasn't moving much, even though Elizabeth, the two girls and I got very close to it - one of the girls even tried to touch it.  It moved a bit then - just kind of fluttered away.  It looked injured, so Elizabeth and I set off trying to find someone who could take care of the bird.  It was quite the adventure - two English majors lost in Spencer looking for a teacher.  Eventually we found one but it turned out that the bird could fly a bit, so it probably wasn't injured - the consensus was that it was just really, really wet (it's been pouring all day) and that its feathers were soaked, so it was having a hard time getting off the ground.  The picture is not our bird, but one similar that I found on the internet.

Anyway, other than that, not much has been going on.  I wrote two papers this week, one on Rumpelstilzchen and one on Moll Flanders.  Neither paper was very good.  And I turned in a copy of what I've got so far of the Baby Reaper story.  Which, I discovered later, I'd forgotten to edit.  In the last post I included the first paragraph, with author notes.  Apparently I turned it in like that.

I am SO embarrassed.  Ugh.

But Kevin didn't seem too perturbed by it.  I'll send more as soon as I have more, and once that bit is edited.

I cannot believe I sent him the unedited version.  *sigh*

sonic fail...

Posted by: Rebecca in ,

So I experienced my first Sonic fail today. It rained all morning then got REALLY FREAKING COLD and so my car iced over. I had to crawl in through the passenger side door because it was the only one I could get open. Then I went to pick up Jessica and Eliza and headed off to Sonic to get something to eat. Then we got there. And yeah. The windows were frozen shut. All of them.

We sat in the parking space thing for like ten minutes, and all the windows opened but mine. SUCH a pain. But then mine opened so it was okay.

That's really all.
