a long-overdue update.

So it's been like a month since I posted. Honestly, nothing exciting has happened to me all summer. I work. Every day. Sometimes I go to church and work on VBS things. We've really lost our steam on this one - none of us really cares any more. I mean, the week of VBS itself is a lot of fun, but the whole getting ready for it... not so much. We've downsized our decorations from what we'd originally planned - we're no longer building animals out of chicken wire and papier mache. We are, however, still building the tree. I think we're scheduled to start that this Sunday, perhaps.

The only exciting thing I've had happen to me - if you can say it's exciting rather than awkward - is that my desk fell apart and the maintenance crew had to come fix it. The maintenance crew consists of three men - Billy Brimm, Farrow Gibson, and a boy named Brian. Billy and Farrow are friends of my grandfather. I don't know who the boy is. However, apparently this boy has been talking to my grandfather about me because he sees him when Billy and Farrow go to their daily 'meetings' at the Amoco with all the other old men in Bells. And so naturally my grandfather's having a fabulous time teasing me about it. I don't even know this boy. He is kind of cute, but he seems a little young. I'm not worried about it, really.

I've decided I have to live somewhere near water. My mother, sister and I went to a friend's lake house for the weekend. I spent most of my time on the boat tied to the dock - we couldn't take it out for a spin, because none of us knew how to operate a boat, but it was a nice shady spot to sit and talk to my mom and sister who were laying out on the dock. It was fantastic. I love just looking at the water - something about it pulls at me. Mama says she's the same way.

And yet we live in landlocked Jackson. Huh.

The conference is coming up in about a month. I sent in my packet at the end of last week, and they cashed the check in it so I'm assuming they got it. I'm mildly anxious about the conference. I always get a little freaked out when people read my stuff, though - it's not so bad with Kevin, probably because I'm used to it, but this is a whole new thing. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes.

Now, as it's the weekend, I'm going to chill and play the Sims (which I FINALLY got working on my computer - installing Leopard, while a good plan, totally screwed up my Sims playing) and read and watch movies and generally not think about invoices and packing slips and purchase orders.
